Arysta LifeScience will purchase a Memphis, Tenn., subsidiary of BASF in a deal that would add 40 employees its headcount and double the company's North American sales to about $200 million.

Tokyo-based Arysta, which moved its North American headquarters to Cary in February, announced Friday that it will acquire Micro Flo Company, a manufacturer of off-patent crop protection chemicals, from BASF for an undisclosed amount.

The acquisition will bring Arysta's North American payroll to about 160, a number that will include about 65 Triangle positions.

Arysta plans to keep its current business separate from Micro Flo's operations for the time being, says spokeswoman Donna Uchida. Micro Flo's headquarters will remain in Memphis.

As part of the agreement, Arysta will acquire the entire Micro Flo line of products, the company's trademark and patents and a development laboratory located in Sparks, Ga. All of the Micro Flo employees have been offered equivalent positions with Arysta, according to a written statement released by the company last Friday.

Arysta's global presence includes about 2,000 employees and 2005 worldwide sales of about $1 billion, according to Uchida. The privately held company says it provides crop protection and life sciences products in more than 125 countries worldwide.
