Chinese appliance giant Midea broke ground on a new 1M unit/year manufacturing site at the Technology Park in Maharashtra, India on 3 November.

The company will pump INR 13.5bn ($185m) into the park over the next five years.

The site covers 270,000 m2, and the park is expected to start operation in early 2020. Sources say that it will 2,000 new jobs in direct and indirect employment. Midea has also been mulling over the construction of an Indian research centre to develop products that cater to local needs.

‘India is a key region in our global growth strategy and will be an important manufacturing hub in the future,’ said Midea Group chairman Paul Fang at the ground-breaking ceremony.
